Plugins that you can’t live without if you’re using WordPress

The WordPress community has donated many very useful plugins for expanding the functionality of WordPress. I have compiled a list of the most notable and useful. Here they are:

  • FeedBurner FeedSmith is a perfect plugin for those using FeedBurner. It redirects your blog’s RSS feed to your FeedBurner RSS feed so you can track all subscribers.
  • Google Sitemaps is for those using Google Webmaster Tools to track their blog. It automatically generates a sitemap of your blog in a Google format.
  • Maintenance Mode allows you to bring up a special page when your site is down for maintenance
  • OneClick Installer is my personal favorite. It allows you to install a plugin or theme with one-click, without ever downloading anything. It even has a Firefox Extension that allows you to just right click on the link of the plugin, and it will download it and install it. Very useful!
  • OneClick Plugin Updater adds on to the functionality of the built-in WordPress plugin update notification. It lets you update the plugin with one-click right on the Plugins screen.
  • Tag Managing Thing allows you to delete and rename tags, and operate with them in general. It is very useful if you are now using tags in WordPress 2.3 or higher. It is still a beta version, however.
  • Target Blank In Posts And Comments is simple, but priceless. Every time someone clicks a link on your blog that goes to an outside site, it will open in a new window in an effort to keep your visitors.
  • WordPress.com Stats is a plugin that tracks the stats of people visiting your blog. The thing that I like about it is that it is not bloated with features like other statistics-tracking services.
  • WordPress Database Backup backs up your WordPress database so that in case of a critical error, you can recover your blog.
  • wp-cache speeds up your blog’s loading time by caching the pages of the web site and loading them quickly from memory.
  • WordPress Instant Upgrade allows you to upgrade your WordPress installation with one click! No more tedious uploading and such. This plugin takes care of all the work, and preserves all your custom themes and plugins.

Some other useful ones that I do not want to go in depth with, are: WP-Polls, WP-PostRatings, and All in One SEO Pack.
